Starmer is facing a growing mutiny in his own ranks, with 108 Labour MPs putting their names to a reasoned amendment aimed at torpedoing the welfare reform bill entirely. Liz Kendall’s last-ditch pep talk to the PLP last night clearly fell flat…
The amendment has been signed by 13 Labour committee chairs, and is led by Treasury committee chief Meg Hillier. It calls for a pause to the welfare changes, further consultation, and for support to be in place before any cuts go ahead. Around 12 ministers are understood to be thinking of rebelling…
For the amendment to land, it’ll need to be selected by Speaker Hoyle and backed by the opposition parties. If that happens, just 87 Labour MPs rebelling next Tuesday at the Second Reading would be enough to kill the bill. A full-scale revolt this early in the Parliament proving Starmer’s grip has already slipped…

Former leader of the SNP in Westminster Ian Blackford told Times Radio why he believes Nicola Sturgeon’s claim that she spent no time in the kitchen and therefore didn’t see any of her husband’s purchases:
“She doesn’t have a passion for cooking.”
