Labour has whacked 20% VAT on families whose children attend independent schools because of special educational needs and disabilities. As one parent told The Sunday Times: “I feel like we are being penalised for wanting the best for our children, who have been failed by the education sector.” “It’s not the wealthy who will be affected by [VAT on private school fees], it’s aspirational families like ours.” Class war…
Research by the Education Not Taxation campaign reveals one in five of them has already remortgaged their house to try to pay the increased fees, and one in eight has sold their home and moved. Many special needs children will simply be moved into the overcrowded state sector…
