The governing body for global athletic sports World Athletics has announced mandatory DNA tests for female athletes to safeguard the integrity of women’s sports, following research confirming that male advantages exist even before puberty. The new regulations will also bar athletes with a difference in sex development (DSD) – those identified as female at birth but who later experience the physiological advantages of male puberty – from competing in women’s categories.
