The government is considering proposals to abolish water regulator Ofwat amid spiralling bills and political arguments over sewage. It constantly harps that its role is “to ensure any increase in bills is justified, efficient and delivers significant improvements in river and bathing water quality.” Judging by Ofwat’s own spending habits it’s the regulator which is pushing bills up…

Ofwat is financed by licence fees from water companies – themselves funded by customer bills. Is the regulator burning through billpayer cash before it gets the chop?
