This comes amid backlash from the PCS (civil service union) over the government’s plan to ensure the blob comes into the office 60% of their working time due to the sound realisation that civil servants are less productive at home. PCS has declared concerns about departments, specifically HMRC, not having enough space in the office to fulfil the initiative, pointing to worries that it won’t be “safe“. The blob has grown year on year, with staff increasing by 3.2% from 2022 to 2023.
