Bank of England Hikes Interest Rates to 5% mdi-fullscreen

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England has voted by a margin of 7-2 to raise interest rates by half a percentage point, to 5%. It’s the highest rise in fifteen years. The move comes after inflation remained stubbornly high in yesterday’s statistics – though the Bank does still expect “inflation to fall significantly” by year end. It’s the thirteenth rate rise in a row.
