Justice minister Lord Wolfson is the first to resign from the government over Partygate. In his resignation letter he tells the PM that yesterday’s disclosures mean he’s come to the conclusion that “the scale, context and nature of those breaches” cannot pass with constitutional impunity, and “I must ask you to accept my resignation”.

One unknown backbencher and a minister in the Lords… could be worse.
