Tories: 15,529 – 51.9% (+23%)

Labour: 8,589 – 28.7% (-9%)

Sam Lee (Independent): 2904 – 9.7% (+7.5)

Reform UK: 368 – 1.2% (-24.6%)

Green Party: 358 – 1.2% (+1.2%)

LibDem: 349 – 1.2% (-3%)

This is the biggest percentage point increases in a governing party’s vote share in post-war Westminster by-elections ever:

  • 7.3% (Lab, Preston 1946)
  • 8.5% (Con, Copeland 2017)
  • 8.9% (Lab, Hull North 1966)
  • 9.8% (Con, Barnsley 1953)
  • 12.0% (Lab, Bournemouth 1945)
  • 23.0% (Con, Hartlepool 2021)

The total swing to the Tories was 16%. Incredible stuff…
