Miliband, Clegg, Soubry, Morgan et al have spent hours this afternoon arguing Britain should seek to retain single market membership as well as secure control of borders. Brussels / Merkel have repeatedly made clear there is zero chance of this happening. The single market obviously entails the famous “four freedoms”; the free movement of goods, capital, services and people. There is no way Brussels will let us stay a full member of the single market if we insist on restricting freedom of movement. The Remain campaign were previously explicit that leaving the EU meant leaving the single market. This is the pathetic level of debate and ‘scrutiny’ we are getting from the grieving Remainers…
