Back in February the Sunday Politics launched its Manifesto Tracker, recording which election promises the Tories have kept or broken. Remember the pledge to require migrants to contribute for four years before they can claim benefits or tax credits? No word on whether that will be kept post-Brexit. The promise of no child benefit or tax credit for overseas children of EU migrants? Cameron’s renegotiation failed on both of these, May’s government has since said nothing. And what about Osborne’s target of surplus before end of parliament? It was always fantasy, and May and Hammond have formally dropped that commitment.
