Smith Calls Corbyn a “Lunatic”

The Indy revealed Oily Smith lashing out at his elderly rival at a rally last night, implying Corbyn was “some… lunatic at the top of the Labour Party”:

“We’ve got to get two million people who actually voted Tory, 12 months ago, to vote Labour, in 106 seats. And what you won’t get from me, is some, you know, lunatic at the top of the Labour Party, you’ll have someone who tries to form a coherent narrative about what’s wrong with Britain.”

Oily has since offered a limp non-apology, claiming “I wasn’t talking about Jeremy Corbyn.” This hasn’t calmed Team Corbyn, who slammed the latter-day Blairite’s campaign:

“Owen Smith has degraded this contest by descending into personal abuse.”

What should have been a winning, post-TrainGate morning for Smith has turned into yet another speech disaster. Oily’s big announcement today that he would, suicidally, commit Labour to blocking Brexit is now over-shadowed…

Quote of the Day

Peter Mandelson tells Emma Barnett…

“I think that Jeremy Corbyn himself should search his conscience and ask himself whether he’s the best person to lead the Labour Party into the general election with the best chance of success for the party.”
