“The first [boundary review] report will be out this autumn and it will finally be implemented in 2018. If this parliament runs to full term then the new boundaries will be the basis on which elections take place. In that case there would be a full selection process in every constituency but the sitting MP for any part or any substantial part of the new boundary would have an opportunity to put their name forward.”
The Tory 1922 committee wants sitting MPs to have protections following the boundary review, so MPs whose old constituency makes up two thirds of a new constituency is treated as an incumbent. Will Jez do the same? That’s if those Labour MPs haven’t already split from the party by 2018…
