Labour Treasury Select Committee member Helen Goodman has privately blasted the Shadow Treasury team as “totally out of touch with the main economic issue of the day”. In a furious email exchange with Labour MP Julie Cooper, the PPS to Shadow Chief Secretary Seema Malhotra, Goodman condemns a Shadow Treasury team briefing document as “a disgrace” because it barely mentions the EU referendum. First, Cooper emails the briefing to the PLP:
From: COOPER, Julie
To: GOODMAN, HelenTreasury Questions is tomorrow at 11.30am. We’ve got a good draw with 11 Labour MPs selected. I have attached the PLP briefing to this email with a list of suggested questions.
Goodman then replies:
From: GOODMAN, Helen
To: COOPER, JulieDear Julie
Sorry this brief is a disgrace. This is the last treasury orals before the referendum and EU is the 16th point and doesn’t appear in the main narrative. This demonstrates that the treasury team is totally out of touch with the main economic issue of the day.
Helen
More evidence the Labour leadership not wanting to talk about the referendum is provoking mutiny…
