Chuka got very upset with Boris on LBC for quoting him as saying 50% of new regulations come from Brussels. This was Chuka’s categorical denial that he’d ever used that statistic:

“No, you’ve got that wrong, I was not quoted as saying that.”

Oh really? 

Guido has unearthed this speech delivered by Chuka where he claims exactly that:

“On regulation, the Tory-led Government has over promised and under delivered – for example, its  ‘one in one out’ rule does not apply to EU legislation which accounts for around half of all new regulation and its semi-detached attitude towards European engagement makes it harder not easier to reduce the regulatory burden on business.”

As Boris says, man up and admit it Chuka!
