The Manchester Evening News is reporting that Simon Danczuk’s neighbouring CLP has made a “formal complaint about his conduct” to the Labour NEC, in what looks like the beginnings of the expected Corbynista purge. Left-wing Labour activists in Heywood and Middleton have passed a motion accusing Danczuk of “smearing” the former leader of Rochdale council, a hard-left firebrand called Colin Lambert. Ironic given some of the smears against Danczuk.
They have also started a petition calling for him to have the whip withdrawn – with thousands of Corbynistas signing within hours. Heywood and Middleton is a considerably more left-wing constituency than Danczuk’s Rochdale, its MP Liz McInnes is a career Unite official who has just joined Corbyn’s frontbench. Danczuk vehemently denies all the allegations. Who will be the next Corbyn critic to face an orchestrated left-wing plot to oust them?
