The health service regulator Monitor have placed Cambridge University Hospitals Trust in special measures after their inspectors found it was “inadequate“. The Trust was haemorrhaging £1.2 million a week, largely because they cocked up the implementation of the electronic patient record IT system e-Hospital.
The e-Hospital system is widely regarded as a poster child for disastrous NHS trust IT projects. Three years ago CUH plumped for the most expensive contract they could and tied themselves to it for 10 years.
