The business focused social network LinkedIn has just agreed to buy online learning company Lynda.com in a cash-stock deal worth $1.5 billion. The purchase is the latest in a series of major LinkedIn acquisitions, who have a reputation for aggressively consolidating their position as the go-to network for professionals.

Lynda.com was one of the online learning pioneers and have built themselves into a professional skills education powerhouse, offering tutorial videos for everything from computer programming to business management. By giving its 350 million users access to the Lynda.com platform, LinkenIn hope to build a reputation as an online destination for filling in gaps in peoples CVs as well as being a job vacancy portal.

Now if they could just stop spamming everyone’s email address…
