Miliband’s Poster Girl Defects to the Greens mdi-fullscreen

Jack Monroe was the Labour Party’s poster girl on poverty, posing for photographs alongside Ed Miliband and members of the Shadow Cabinet. A blogger for the Guardian and the face of a Sainsbury’s anti-poverty advertising campaign, she starred in a Labour Party political broadcast in 2013. In a stunning blow to the Labour leader, Monroe has defected to the Green Party, slamming the direction of Miliband’s party:

“It was kind of inevitable after the ‘Labour gets tough on immigration’ speeches, and been a long time coming. Hard decision in the end, but definitely feels like the right one. Still have a lot of love for the Labour Party, but just disagree with too much of it right now. I’ve been chewing over it since meeting Natalie in person for the first time over a year ago. Consistently find myself agreeing with everything I read, sealed with that Guardian interview with Caroline a couple of weeks ago. It just feels right, right now. In an ideal world we’d have a Labour/SNP/Green coalition.”

At last a principled left-winger moaner takes a stand. When will Owen Jones remember his roots and follow in his progressive colleague’s footsteps?
