Labour’s widely-respected election chief Lucy Powell has chalked up another wounding blow against the Tories with a series of highly illuminating Written Questions about government spending. Her top investigate digging into first class travel used by ministers, which cost the taxpayer £164 per question, has revealed that:

• Since Labour left office there has been a 97% decrease in the amount spent on first class rail tickets at DCLG
• A 99% decrease at the MoD
• A 98% decrease at the Department for Health
• A 79% decrease at the MoJ
• A 100% decrease at the Attorney General’s Office
