Tories Demand Miliband Sacks Baldwin

The Tories have demanded that Ed Miliband sacks Tom “weaponise the NHS” Baldwin after it unsurprisingly emerged that it was the Labour leader’s liability spin doctor who compared Lord Fink to a “Milly Dowler moment”. It comes just weeks after Baldwin was revealed to have told a Lobby journalist “I hate you. Even if I was dying, I wouldn’t want your bone marrow”. With the Dowlers’ lawyer getting involved this morning, Tory MP Henry Smith writes to Miliband:

“Mr Baldwin should now examine his conscience and decide whether or not he can continue to speak to the media on your behalf. If he chooses not to resign his post, then you should have the decency to sack him yourself, and make a full, comprehensive and public apology to the Dowler family for his actions.”

Badlwin declined the opportunity to deny responsibility when Guido put it to him yesterday:

He’s really crossed the line this time…

Quote of the Day

Stephen Bush writing in the New Statesman‘s morning briefing…

“The terrifying truth is that the Opposition is too divided – within the parliamentary party, within the trades unions, within the Shadow Cabinet and even within the leader’s office – to be anything other than a veto player as far as Brexit goes, and the party’s whole gambit is really about trying to make that weakness look like a strength. Keir Starmer saying that Labour is “increasingly likely” to vote down the deal is simply a reflection of the fact that the one thing the Labour party will be able to agree on as far as Brexit goes is that Theresa May’s deal is no good.”
