It’s been widely reported this week that Samsung’s SmartTVs capture users’ voice commands and collect and analyse them to evaluate and improve the features. Well, it seems that they aren’t the only South Korean electronics manufacturer to be snooping on what their users are saying.
LG Electronics’ current Privacy Policy tells LG Smart TV viewers that “Voice Information” gathered from people using its voice command feature can be used for purposes including “delivering advertisments,” “to understand how customers are using LG Smart TV” and “to protect and defend our rights and property, including by way of legal proceedings“.
“Please be aware that if your spoken word includes personal or other sensitive information, such information will be among the Voice Information captured through your use of voice recognition features…We use information obtained from your LG Smart TV (both non-personal information and, where applicable, personal information) for various purposes.”
