Irrespective of resources and budget, the worst Local Authority websites are ones that have been fobbed off by senior management onto less competent lackeys. According to a report set to be published in full next month by the IT professional body Socitm, websites under control of senior authority staff such as the Chief Executive or Executive Director perform significantly better than those left in the hands of a “head of service”. Which happens at 41% of Local Authorities…

The report confirmed that many Local Authority websites continue to fall below basic expected standards – less than half of them let users find out about basic information about their local councillors, with many not even naming the parties represented in the council. Who would have thought…
