Thousands of Londoners who are breaching the law by renting out their property for short-term lets on sites like Airbnb could see their part-time business legalised, according to a policy paper released by the Cabinet Office. While the rest of the UK has been able to take advantage of the boom in short term property letting, Londoners have been lumbered with a Greater London Council Act from the 1970s that requires change of use planning permission for renting out. The Act has been poorly enforced and many home owners have been risking a possible £20,000 in order to monetise their spare bedrooms.

Airbnb claim that the average UK user of their site makes £2,822 a year by letting their property for 33 days. That which is not just, is not Law; and that which is not Law, ought not to be obeyed…
