Maria Miller’s unrivaled popularity with her own party was on show at a conference business dinner last night. Due to give the after-dinner speech, Miller approached a table of Tory MPs to discuss what she was going to say. Up piped Steve Baker, the universally-liked MP for Wycombe, with the suggestion that she should commit to closing down the BBC and bring about an end to her own department. As she began her speech, Miller then unwisely tried to rib Baker, informing the room that drink had clearly been taken. Cue a Baker telling the room she should be abolished.
