Tower Hamlets Gives £64,000 of Taxpayers’ Money to Unite

If Tory councillors in Kent are guilty of abusing their position to the tune of £5,000, you could always bet on Lutfur Rahman to outdo them. A great spot by Ted Jeory, who has found that Tower Hamlets council bunged £64,000 to Unite to fund a community centre in the area. The centre has the pretence of helping residents and fighting to reduce unemployment, though it is clearly a front for a Unite recruiting office. It is full of partisan anti-Coalition leaflets and union apparatchiks trying to sign up new members.

This is taxpayers’ money being spent on helping Unite recruit new members, pure and simple. Imagine if the Tories did the same thing…

Quote of the Day

Andrea Leadsom told BBC Radio 4’s Today

“He’s made his views on Brexit on the record, and the problem with that of course is that the chair’s impartiality is absolutely essential. … He’s made his views known on Brexit… it’s a matter for him but nevertheless it’s a challenge and all colleagues need to form their own view of that.”
