Mick Philpott has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the manslaughter of six children, he will serve at least 15 years. Mairead Philpott and Paul Mosley were sentenced to 17 years each, of which they must both serve half. During sentencing the judge made reference to Mick Philpott receiving the benefits payments of his wife and mistress:

“Their wages and benefits went into your account. You did not even allow them their own door key. Everything was done for the pleasure of Michael Philpott, you had to do something extreme to get your own way and you did. The plan was to cast yourself as a hero on the night of the fire – it was a wicked and dangerous plan.You have no moral compass.”
