Fib Dems mdi-fullscreen

David Laws was out on the airwaves this morning mopping up in the wake of Clegg’s apology. He coughed to the Today programme the logic behind LibDem policy formation:

“If the Liberal Democrats had won 500 seats…of course it would have been technically possible to deliver this policy. It wasn’t possible after the election…and that is why Nick has apologised.”

Cable was on Newsnight last night saying he was always sceptical about the policy, but what this shows is just how unprepared the LibDems were for government. Which has to make you wonder about their political antennae. Guido is struggling to find a picture of Vince with that infmaous pledge card. He doubts that will be enough to distance the future leader from the policy though…

UPDATE: Guido is reminded that Danny Alexander was planning on dropping the policy before the election. They should have seen the backlash coming though.
