As MPs return from their extended break, the rumour mill has taken a day or two to get back into gear, but Guido hears that Monday’s meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party was not much fun. Harman and Watson’s controversial idea to try and ban MPs from standing in by-elections was raised by grumpy backbenchers who report that Ed was left with very little to say other than “no decision has been made” over and over. Why would they want to leave with that sort of inspirational leadership?
