The Sunday Telegraph this morning has a leader on the problem of public sector “pilgrims” – full time taxpayer-funded trade union officials. There is widespread support for a move against the system in the coalition. LibDems are no friends of big unions and will be happy to indulge in union bashing with a purpose – to save hundreds of millions in Whitehall and local councils annually.
Eric Pickles and Francis Maude floated the moves at Tory conference, in parliament backbenchers including Dominic Raab, Aidan Burley and David Morris are outriders for action. Shifting union activists to front line services is hard to argue against…
