Yesterday Ed Balls demonstrated that he is neither on top of his brief nor good with numbers, telling the BBC that “the problem is 80% of our migration comes from the EU states, they’re not affected at all by the cap which was announced today by Theresa May”. Eh? The figure is wildy wrong – according to the Office of National Statistics of the 528,000 migrants last year 292,000 were non-European – that is 55% of the total. So only out by 100,000 or so migrants…
