Just in case you are wondering “what the hell is that ‘Social Guido’ bar thing?” that appears at the top when you scroll down the blog, Guido is experimenting with making it easier for co-conspirators to share whatever is of interest that they see here via tweeting, linking to Facebook or email. If that isn’t your thing, just ignore it.
If it floats your boat, great, it works unobtrusively, doesn’t spam your friends or steal your contacts. It simply allows you to use your favourite social network without leaving the blog…
To be honest Guido doesn’t really get why the British left-wing blogosphere in particular has long lists of repetitive re-tweet trackbacks cluttering up their comment threads rather than actual fresh comments. You won’t find this blog’s comment threads pointlessly full of identical re-tweets.
Guido is no longer on Facebook, partly because it didn’t make sense to send traffic away from here to there, instead of attracting traffic from Facebook to here. Twitter is different, nowadays it sends 5% of the traffic to the blog, which is still less than IainDale.com sends Guido’s way. Are there any other social media bells and whistles that co-conspirators would like? Guido thinks a ‘most read’, ‘most commented’ info box would be good. On average 9 to 5 weekdays, 300 or so people are on the site at any one time. Would an ability to see who else is on the site be useful?
