Another day, and another swathe of new peers are being sworn into office and £300-a-day expenses. Still waiting for Lord Howard of Transylvania, but the big question today is whether Gordon will actually bother to show up to watch his long-suffering aide Sue Nye ennobled.

After eighteen loyal years in the shadows, keeping out-of-the-way of Nokias, and keeping the rest of the world away from Gordon, her boss repaid her with blame for his own mess and weaknesses. The public got to see it spectacularly once, but who knows what else went on behind closed doors. Eighteen years of “mad, bad and dangerous” work?
She deserves a medal…

Balls prevaricated to Brillo somewhat, to be fair it seems Dessy didn’t have dinner with Blinky, but he did convey his intent to him around dinner time. Why would a Brownite Labour minister contemptuous of Blair tell the Tory leader’s PPS his intent? To destabilise Blair. These emails were revealed to Dessy’s discomfort by a Tory girl, why are Brillo and Guido being reminded of them? To discomfort Ed. Doesn’t make the email untrue…

It seems that your freedom really does have a limit with this government. For all the talk, the majority have once again been silenced by the minority. Along with the “crowd-slicing” spending cuts consultancy project, the government web-watchers have shut down the debate on Your Freedom because of a few nutters. As Guido said the other day and will say again now – freedom is messy – It doesn’t matter so long as we find some diamonds in the mud.
