Charles Clarke launched a counter-onslaught alleging that Brown might not be responsible for Tom Watson’s mutiny, but he could have stopped it. (Tom Watson has given some comments to The Stirrer here which back that up. Guido believes his story.)
Guido is more interested in the foul mouthed vitriolic attack recounted by Nick Robinson this morning on the Today programme. Nick is not going to tell us who said it even though he says such was the fury that the cabinet minister said he could “use that anyway you want”*. So it was effectively on the record but Nick is not going to tell the public.
The tone and fearlessness has John Reid all over it. Robinson could of course confirm this, he was authorised to do so, so why hold back? The public pay your wages Nick, why are you keeping this secret?
