Half the Square Mile seems to be going to the City Circle* shindig tonight. The rightfully rehabilitated Howard Flight (ex-Guinness Flight) is back as president of the organisation he founded. Richard Spring MP (ex-Lehmans) and Michael Spencer (ICAP’s demi billionaire CEO) are the co-chairmen of the organisation with the gold-plated rattling tins. Earlier ICAP will also be hosting a lunch for leading City figures to meet the Shadow Treasury team.
Bet it is more sober and less fun than a usual moneybroker’s lunch.
More than 500 moneymen are expected to come and sniff the air for traces of the scent of victory. A cynic might think that the big turn out has something to do with the Tories now pulling 10% ahead of Labour at the polls…
*Older City readers should not confuse this society with the rather more raunchy establishment of the same name with the extremely friendly uniformed and willing waitresses. Guido remembers the place fondly, alas the establishment is no more.
