Manifesto: Blair ’05 Versus Thatcher ’79 mdi-fullscreen
Blair is promising to stand as New Labour on a New Labour manifesto all about choice in the public sector written by Milburn. Milburn says “I know what it is like to grow up where people were completely disempowered and had no choice… If the private sector offers choice and the public sector does not, it ceases to command confidence”.

John Hutton, minister of state at the Department of Health, writes in a pamphlet for the Social Market Foundation, “The concept of ‘profit’ can and should play an increasingly important role in improving quality. Hospitals and schools that provide a high-quality service should be able to retain any surplus and be able to re-invest that profit in developing those successful services even further”.

Guido is confused, are the Blairites asking Labour voters to support them in the completion of their Neo-Thatcherite agenda? Comrades, Thatcher never dared to bring the profit motive into schools and hospitals, what a great day this will be for socialism!

UPDATE: Mark Seddon, editor of Tribune and a member of the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee is telling MPs to write and stand on their own Old Labour manifesto.
UPDATE: My thanks to Stalin’s Gran – Mark Seddon, is apparently the former editor of the Tribune, which is now home to the former Recess Monkey.
