I am, of course, supporting the civil servants one-day strike on the fifth of November. The 260,000 members of the Public and Commercial Services union were polled following government plans to cut over 100,000 jobs. Job cuts which I predict will not happen under Gordon Brown, the whole thing was a ruse to blunt the Tory charge that Brown is a tax and spend socialist.

I hope the good-for-nothing lazy pen pushers stay on strike indefinitely, popular support for a strike by Inland Revenue staff would be massive. I often wish they would cut off my government for non-payment of taxes in the same way that they cut off my phone when I don’t pay the bill…
