GOP Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich seems to be taking the old saying “aim for the moon, and even if you miss you will land amongst the stars” literally. In a speech yesterday he promised to have established a moon base by the end of his second term. How’s this for blue sky thinking:

“When we have 13,000 Americans living on the moon, they can petition to become a state… I wanted every young American to say to themselves, I could be one of those 13,000. I could be a pioneer. I need to study science and math and engineering. I need to learn how to be a technician. I can be a part of building a bigger, better future. I can actually go out and live the future, looking at the solar system and being part of a generation of courageous people who do something big and bold and heroic.”

Steve Hilton declined to comment…

Tatiana Limanova, an award-winning journalist and host of a Russian national news show on the REN-TV channel, reported on the APEC summit in the United States, giving a traditional gesture a moment after mentioning Obama. The station’s owner is close to Vladamir Putin, Tatiana has now been fired. Guido is unable to confirm that she has been offered a job on Fox News…

Earlier this week Guido took Mrs Fawkes to a preview showing of George Clooney’s new political thriller “The Ides of March”. Mrs Fawkes isn’t interested in politics, but she is interested in George Clooney. Half the Lobby were at the screening as well – some with their other halves – it is a deeply political thriller about a US presidential campaign. Clooney follows in the footsteps of Robert Redford in “The Candidate” (1972) in as much that it is about a good looking liberal-left politician who has to make compromises with reality to win an election. Guido won’t spoil the story, but it will appeal to co-conspirators.

There was one line that particularly amused Guido and judging by the loud guffaws, the Lobby – “You can start wars and bankrupt the country. They’ll forgive you for that. But you don’t f**k the intern.” Or the political adviser…

It seems Coke & Sex Week has gone international, with another prominent right-winger’s past being flung into the public eye. This one is going to be huge. Sarah Palin is accused of having a one night stand in 1987, behind her soon to be husband’s back, with 6ft 7in NBA player Glen Rice. The tryst allegedly took place in her sister Molly’s dorm room at the University of Alaska. Palin was a sports reporter at the time. However that’s not all:

“The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin by the respected if controversial author, Joe McGinniss, claims Palin was seen snorting cocaine off the top of a 55-gallon drum while snowmobiling with friends. It also alleges she smoked marijuana with a professor while at Mat-Su College in Alaska.”

Brad Hanson, Todd Palin’s business partner is also accused of sleeping with the former Alaskan governor in 1996. Unlike with a certain Tory Chancellor, at least it seems Palin wasn’t so stupid as to be caught grinning in front a plate of charlie. This might not go down so well with the hockey moms, but Guido is certainly amused…

Faced with defeat, Obama has taken a leaf out of Gordon’s book by throwing as much money as he possibly can up into the air, and hoping that people won’t notice that he’s mugging them to do so. This is like Christmas for Balls as it gives a semblance of credibility to his economic lunacy…

You wouldn’t know that Ron Paul came second in Iowa from the reporting of the Republican nomination race.Which is why his latest campaign advert mocks his rivals. The libertarian inclined candidate is running on an anti-establishment platform of bringing the troops home, sound money and low taxes. The difference is, he means it.
