Quote of the Day

Two quotes from Piers Morgan after Mirror pays out compensation over Sven / Ulrika hacking…

First is from volume three of his diaries Morgan published in 2009…

“…it was the Daily Mirror, under my editorship, which exposed Sven’s fling with Ulrika Jonsson after learning of a similar message left by the then England manager on her  phone”

Second is from his video evidence to the Leveson Inquiry in December 2011…

“I have never hacked a phone, told anyone to hack a phone, or published any stories based on the hacking of a phone.”

Twitter Bitch Fight of the Week: Morgan v Maguire

Two Mirror men past and present have come to blows in this week’s Twitter bitch fight.

Piers Morgan did not take kindly to Kevin Maguire’s diary story about him going to visit Andy Coulson in the clink. The Mirror associate editor cattily enquired as to why Piers didn’t tweet about the trip.

One problem, he did:

Cue Piers deciding to give Maguire a slap:

He should have quit while he was ahead:

Career for Piers

piersspot

When Piers was fired from his prime time CNN show he was in denial and claimed that he was moving on to do interviews with “big celebrities and powerful people that is better suited to what I do well and fit with what Jeff [Jeff Zucker CNN president] is trying to do with the network.” That hasn’t worked out…

The transfer window is open for Piers after CNN released their misfiring multi-million pound star signing on a free:

Piers has plenty of experience in print and broadcast, but the online section of his CV is limited to correcting abusively critical people’s grammar on Twitter. Guido is however looking to hire a budding hopeful capable of producing high quality photo and video content between now and the election. Since he is looking for a new employer, Piers is welcome to submit his application to be the blog’s new Video Journalist/Producer where he can do interviews with powerful people. Any potential future legal issues facing candidates must be disclosed at the interview stage…

Piers Tears: Another Fake Mirror Front Page

Under the headline “Britain, 2014.” the Mirror’s front page is really going for emotional shock factor today:

The only problem is that the picture is not “Britain, 2014″, it is “America, 2009″ and Anne is crying over an earthworm. The Getty photo was shared via Flickr by Lauren Rosenbaum in November 2009, she has a really cute smile:

Of course this is not the first time that the Mirror have got into trouble for a fake front page photo misrepresenting a wider campaign, editor Lloyd Embley is following in the traditions of Piers Morgan. Nobody mention that “territorial Army base in Lancashire”  and “occupied Iraq”.

UPDATE: The Mirror ran a fake story about mutant super rats in Liverpool and had to pay compensation to a Hampstead man as a result.

End of the Piers Show: CNN Sack Phone Hacking Suspect

“It’s been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings,” Piers Morgan tells the New York Times by way of explanation to why his CNN show is getting canned. “I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarising, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it.”

Yes Piers, that’s the only reason why

Fears for Piers in Kensington

“I know of no cases of phone hacking,” the Mail Editor-in-chief Paul Dacre told the Leveson Inquiry. “Having conducted a major internal inquiry, I am as convinced as I can be that there is no phone hacking on the Daily Mail. I don’t make that statement lightly.” Today’s news that Piers was questioned under police caution late last year is the closest Associated Newspapers have come to being tainted by hacking, even though Morgan’s alleged involvement/knowledge stretches back to a time when he was working for a rival news group.

“Piers Morgan’s role as a Mail on Sunday columnist must surely come under pressure now” says an insider at the paper who has knowledge of Morgan’s vast salary, secured when editor Geordie Greig’s predecessor Peter Wright was in charge. “Geordie didn’t hire Morgan, so he shouldn’t find it a problem to release him. It’s a piss poor column anyway.”

Could Dacre and the increasingly influential Lady Rothermere, wife of the proprietor, find themselves in rare agreement in believing that any association with Morgan is bad for business as long as he has a hacking cloud hanging over him? And heaven knows how CNN took the news.

Piers Morgan Questioned Under Caution by Hacking Cops

He tells the Guardian:

“In early November I was asked to attend an interview by officers from Operation Weeting when I was next in the UK.

This was further to a full witness statement I had already freely provided. I attended that interview as requested on 6 December 2013.”

Top Hacking Lawyer Relocating to LA

Mark Lewis, the phone hacking lawyer leading the fight against the Mirror, is off to sunny LA:

Dear All

In perhaps one of the worst kept secrets, I will be leaving the UK on Friday to take up permanent residence in Los Angeles.

I will still be pursuing those cases in the UK and will undoubtedly be back in London on a regular basis re NGN and MGN. I do have cases that will be pursued in the USA.

I will still be available on this email address and my English mobile number. I will forward my US cell phone details next week.

Thank you all for your contacts over the years.

Best regards

Mark Lewis

Can anyone think of any New York/LA based former tabloid editors who might not appreciate the new arrival on their home-ground?

Have you read the last bit of Animal Farm?

You know where the animals are looking through the Farmhouse window?

My TV screen was that window at lunch-time today.

Be careful, the sudden self-congratulatory tone, the slightly pudgy outline of indulgence and you become exactly what you should despise.

The jolly face of the Quisling Cameron poses for your camera has mesmerised and deceived you, you who were once not so deceived.

You were no firebrand, you were a damp squib in my opinion, sorry.

You need a damned good kick up the ahse!
