It must have been a shock for left-wing luvvie Dale Vince to see union workers protesting outside his own firm’s HQ. Yesterday afternoon Unite workers and supporters staged a demonstration outside the Stroud offices of Vince’s energy company Ecotricity, calling for the reopening of negotiations for union recognition. It’s also part of the union’s wider campaign to renationalise the entire energy sector…
In a round robin email Unite urged people to attend the protest with a pointed attack on Vince:
“Dale Vince, the owner of Ecotricity, has an estimated wealth of £107,000,000 yet refuses to negotiate a deal for Ecotricity workers allowing for them to have a say in their pay and conditions.”
Meanwhile Vince appears on television and radio to agitate for higher taxes and wealth redistribution across the UK. Unite says he keep to his own patch first…
The Lords Commissioner says Alli is under investigation for the “alleged non-registration of interests leading to potential breaches of paragraphs 14(a) and 17 of the thirteenth edition of the Code of Conduct for Members of the House of Lords.” Here’s the code:
“14. In order to assist in openness and accountability members shall: (a) register in the Register of Lords’ Interests all relevant interests, in order to make clear what are the interests that might reasonably be thought to influence their parliamentary actions.”
“17. Members are responsible for ensuring that their registered interests are accurate and up-to-date. They should register any change in their relevant interests within one month of the change.”
Not going away…
Fevered reports that Private Eye political editor Ian Hislop had been shot at in a ‘targeted’ attack circulated the media this morning. The Guardian was aflutter with news that Hislop, riding in a black cab, heard what was thought to be a “bullet” shattering the window. Spare a thought for Ian, who must have been very shaken up…
Police were quick to investigate the report, though despite initial fears, it turns out there was no gun or bullet, instead, the police have concluded it was probably just a “mechanical fault caused the window to shatter”. About as accurate as Private Eye…
The Welsh Labour government has released new procurement card spend data for 2022-2023. Apart from the total cash spent almost doubling from £800,000 to £1,500,000, the taxpayer might want to see exactly what crucial devolved government work they are financing. Here are the highlights:
Welsh officials have been keeping themselves well fed and watered on the taxpayer’s dime. Labour made a massive deal last year of government procurement card spending – they even rebranded their Twitter to attack the Tories for spending cash on cocktail parties for diplomats and so on. Funny they don’t seem too keen to mention it any more…
UPDATE: Welsh Tory leader Andrew RT Davies says:
“The Labour Welsh Government are literally dining out on the backs of taxpayers as ministers complain of tight financial constraints and NHS waiting lists balloon for six consecutive record-breaking months. You couldn’t make this up.”
Kemi is the final of the four. The fever dream beauty parade ends after this…

A rabble-rousing speech. In summary:
The members liked that one…
Robert Jenrick is next up on stage. The (now) right-winger will be talking about immigration, a smaller state and a united country. He’s apparently going to speak without any notes…

After a video featuring Boris Johnson and Liz Truss in a nod to Brexit and finishing with a voter saying he would return to the party if Jenrick is the leader, Jenrick delivers his note-free speech. Here are the key takeaways:
Former leader of the SNP in Westminster Ian Blackford told Times Radio why he believes Nicola Sturgeon’s claim that she spent no time in the kitchen and therefore didn’t see any of her husband’s purchases:
“She doesn’t have a passion for cooking.”
