Khan Crash: Sadiq’s Rush Hour Horror + Cuts Into Bus Lane Ahead of Organ Transport Ambulance ++ Safety Campaigners Slam Sadiq Using Phone At Wheel +

Sadiq Khan, an award winning national road safety campaigner, was photographed dangerously operating his mobile phone while behind the wheel. The reckless Labour mayoral candidate once said “as a local father I know that road safety is a big issue”, yet that did not stop him checking his messages behind the wheel on his Monday morning ride to work. As a former Transport Minister, he really should know better…

After seeing Khan “clearly checking text or email messages on his phone several times”, an eyewitness looked on in horror as the grey VW then cut in front of an ambulance to prematurely pull into a bus lane on Albert Embankment at 0910 this Monday morning:

Here you can see Khan clearly driving in the bus lane, blocking the path of the NHS vehicle, which Guido understands to be an organ transport van:

So much for Labour caring about the NHS.

This year Khan was awarded the National Road Safety Campaigner of the Year by the charity Brake, claiming,“throughout my nine years as the local MP, I have campaigned alongside the local community to make our roads safer.” Perhaps he was not concentrating when his Shadow Cabinet colleague Mary Creagh said:“Using your phone while driving is illegal and Labour will be pressing the government to take firm action.”  Labour’s shadow Roads Minister Richard Burden went even further earlier this year, calling for a year long ban for anyone caught on their mobile phone behind the wheel: “…checking who is on their mobile phone doesn’t feel like a priority job. But if that person using a mobile then ploughs into another vehicle, we will all see why it should have been a priority.”

Since Mr Khan refused on nine different occasions today to confirm or deny that he was the driver or owner of the car, here it is parked outside of his £700,000 Tooting villa:

This afternoon, Brake told Guido:

“It is important that public figures set a positive example of safe driving behaviour, and it is disappointing if any politician fails to do so, particularly when they have a strong record of road safety work in the past. Mobile phone use at the wheel is still a huge issue – it dramatically increases your risk of a devastating crash, whether handheld or hands-free, talking or texting – and Brake wants to see higher penalties and a ban on hands-free use to tackle it.”

Khan says he wants to be Mayor to make the streets of London safer…

IDS/Reeves Ding Dong Gets Heated

Rachel Reeves got very heated in the chamber at the end of DWP questions, storming out after IDS after he refused to apologise for pointing out that she failed to turn up to vote last week. Reeves rather cryptically warned him: “The Secretary of State knows nothing for why I was not able to attend last week”. Could it be another expertly executed Labour ambush?

LibDems Presume They Will Form Government Post-2015

At least the LibDems can be relied on for blinkered optimism in the face of impending doom. Recipients of the party’s promotional “Brochure 2015” were amused at this plug for the annual LibDem business dinner due to be held in September 2015. The discussion on “sustainable long-term growth post-2015” boasts:

“attendance from the entire Liberal Democrat business team including senior Special Advisers in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and HM Treasury [and] relevant Special Advisers across other departments”

The terrifying thing is, even if they are almost wiped out, the LibDems could still hold the balance of power…
