Refuge: Ruffley Must Resign

Leading domestic violence charity Refuge has called for David Ruffley to resign over his assault on his ex-girlfriend. Refuge’s chief executive Sandra Horley says she is “concerned that David Ruffley has so far been allowed to retain his position”, and demands the government “demonstrate to the public that men who abuse women will face consequences”.

“Earlier this year David Ruffley MP accepted a police caution for assaulting his former partner.  He has now expressed his ‘deep regrets’ about the incident and has explained that he has apologised to her.

Let me be clear – assaulting your partner is domestic violence, and it is a crime.  David Ruffley’s violent behaviour is all the more disappointing given that he has previously spoken out publicly against domestic violence.  Writing on his own website, he has asserted that, “One incident of domestic violence is one too many”.  Marking the White Ribbon Day campaign in 2005, he also wrote: “By wearing a white ribbon we are able to pledge never to commit, tolerate or ignore violence against women.”

Violent men must take responsibility for their actions. Apologies are all well and good, but at Refuge we know that perpetrators frequently use violence after apologising to their partners and making promises to change their behaviour.

I am concerned that David Ruffley has so far been allowed to retain his position.  This Government has stated that addressing violence against women and girls is one of its top priorities.  I sincerely hope it shows leadership on this issue by demonstrating to the public that men who abuse women will face consequences for their actions.”

Another loud, public call for Ruffley to go. The growing list of names demanding he step down will not have gone unnoticed by his association…

Truth is its a witch hunt, Ruffles is a knob but not for clipping said sweetheart around the ear, frankly there are a great many out there who would benefit from a well placed boot up the arse, male, female and those not too sure what category they fall in

The usual suspects in Ruffles case are of course the feminist hairy tit brigade (you know the ones they really want to be men but can’t so settle for control over them. They can be provocatively aggressive themselves but are quick scream abuse if it comes back at them).

The whole thing points up the absurdity of equality laws. Women tend to be physically weaker than men, which is to say: men and women are DIFFERENT. On the one hand we have activists campaigning against blokes hitting their wives/girlfriends; on the other we have activists campaigning for women to be given front-line roles in the armed forces, firefighting, etc., because they are supposedly equal in every way. So which is it?

IMO any man who strikes a woman is a total shit. She should walk out pronto and not give him a chance to do it again.

They have no terms of employment; can do pretty well what they want (and do do), many start with integrity but it just oozes away as the Party whips proffer whatever foibles the MP is weak for…..
Double standards are swirling around so that all the images and media drip daily with The Houses demonstrating how they get “public demands”, public standards etc.
As for Ruffley, tant pis. He cares nothing for us and we need have no care for him. If the Commons wants to find witches and burn them, get on with it. Less to go around in May 2015 but there’s plenty to go around, then.

I have been in situations where a woman was desperately trying to tongue-goad me into striking her, and very nearly did. That does not make me a viiolent man either. In my experience such goading can be much more harmful and vicious than anything else. So please stick to the facts, one strike is just that.

Perhaps there was some provocation. Not that this excuses it, but makes it more understandable. And there are usually 2 sides to a story.

I do not know what happened between Ruffley and his former lady friend – and neither does anyone else. Only the two of them know. He clearly wasn’t himself and must have behaved badly because he accepted a police caution. We do not know what she did during the altercation. What we do know is that a women’s lobby/feminist caucus have been snapping and yapping at Ruffley’s heels in a determined bid to claim his scalp. That is what they do. He has never spoken in public about what happened – and we have the extraordinary publication of a letter written by a senior cleric in his constituency which clearly makes no effort to bring a Christian approach to a sad domestic falling out. But the vehmence of their approach begins to make me think that something else is happening. This is an attempt to trap the Tories by a bunch of left wing motivated feministas. If they get Ruffley to quit – they have a notch on their pole – if they fail then they can accuse the Tories of being soft of domestic abuse. Had the case gone to court and the evidence been in the public domaine – then Ruffley’s future in politics would probablybe over. But the police did not charge him. Why? Is there not a threshold
where a charge is mandatory – even when the victim decides she will not press charges? I thought police forces got tough on domestic assaults – so again I say, if it was something so serious Ruffley has to quit Parliament – why did this case not come to court. Did the police get the full story.
