AUDIO:  Ward Refuses to Apologise Over Rocket Row

David Ward has told BBC Radio Leeds that he will not apologise for last night’s comments, insisting he is only sorry “it people misinterpreted” his admission that were he a Palestinian he would fire rockets at Israel. Ward confirmed he had spoken with the LibDem chief whip this morning, and that a statement from the party can be expected this afternoon. A mealy mouthed apology for ‘causing offence’, like last time, is unlikely to be enough…

Incidentally, Guido is too hungover to do a proper BBC rant, however, the soft line of questioning and the fawning thanks from the presenter in that interview was pathetic. Get Ward in front of Kay Burley, pronto.

  1. 1
    David Ward says:

Those cowardly bastards, Hamas have used Wafa Hospital & its immediate surroundings as a command center, rocket launching site & position from which to fire at us.

  2. 2
    conclete pump says:

Kay Burley is a Kentucky fried fuckwit.

  3. 3
So it's "I disapprove of what you say and I will defend to the death to stop you saying it" says:

Ward’s a twat but the way Geedo and others are leading this march to silence him is very sinister. Free speech is apparently ok in every other respect except when commenting on the middle east. In contrast, there’s been zero reaction the world over to the Is*aeli Knesset member who called for every last Palestinian to be exterminated. Funny, that.

  4. 4
    The two Muppets says:

David Ward is an apologist for Hamas ,and should be ashamed of himself . Israel has every right to defend herself against Hamas aggression .

  5. 5
    Jimmy says:

I think you need to give this story more coverage. If an MP gets away with tweeting something stupid then it may happen again.

  6. 6

Why should he ? Admission of liability for something he hasn’t done ?

  10. 10
    Mycroft says:

    Absolutely right!

This is just another flourishing of the race card by those whining.

If anyone here says he/she would sit back and not retaliate should take a long hard look at themselves.

On the other side I’d fire rockets too.

The point is that once talking stops weapons are used.

Talking is also about opinion and stifling opinion is not the stance any sane person can adopt without being seen as a worthless person.

Screaming racist on this is another nail in the coffin of free speech in this Country, please stop, it’s depressing to feel that there are so few people who hold sound British values.

    Country’s going to the dogs.

  11. 11
    Bill Quango MP says:

Is that Is*aeli Knesset member a British MP, subject to Parliamentary accountability and the United kingdom’s laws on the use of social media under the broadcasting act and the terror laws of inciting racial hatred?

  12. 12

  14. 14
    Bill Quango MP says:

Did they say why. Or how?

  15. 15

I don’t see why Mr Ward’s statement is wrong. It is a statement of conditional fact, rather than morality. One might as well say “if I’d been a French peasant in 1793 I’d probably have wanted all the aristos killed”. It doesn’t imply approval.

  16. 16
    Bill Quango MP says:

Far far fewer people have been killed in all of Is’rails wars and conflicts than in the recent Syrian civil war alone.

Yet that rarely even gets a mention.

Aren’t the hotels in Damascus up to the standard of Tel Aviv?

There are endless number of terrorist tunnels made by the “Palestinians”… http://fb.me/6KwhUylIM

  19. 19
    The two Muppets says:

How can it be possible for David Ward To retain the Libdem whip ?
He is an obnoxious idiot spouting his pro Palestinian rhetoric .
All Israel is doing is protecting herself .

  20. 20
    Bill Quango MP says:

It most certainly does. Hard to see how the sentence can be construed any other way.

“in 1793 I’d probably have wanted all the aristos killed..despite personally not agreeing with the state’s head chopping policy.”

    Doesn’t work, does it?

  21. 21
    Whippersnapper2 says:

Oh not again Guido everybody in the world now knows Ward is a CNUT. Even him.

  22. 22

He should be in front of a committee!

  23. 23
    Owen Jones QC says:

Blah blah blah David Ward MP blah blah blah LIBDEM idiot blah blah blah Nick Clegg blah blah blah history.

  24. 24

No, it’s a statement of what other people must be tempted to do. If somebody murdered my wife, I’d probably want to kill them. It doesn’t mean that I think I would be right for me to do so.

  25. 25
    Ibrahim Pinkelstein says:

Oi Ahmed and Shlomo leave it… She ain’t worth it!

  26. 26
    Mr. Common Sense says:

The aggressor is someone, like Hamas, who starts the violence. Someone who retaliates to defend themself is NOT an aggressor.

  27. 27
    Mycroft says:

How the hell is that ‘racial hatred’???

It is a statement of placement, placed in a desperate situation would you fire rockets at your enemy.

Only a dolt would even think it’s racial statement.

  28. 28

LOL. It was the ‘there was a plane following doing all the work of the evil West with a U’krainian decals’ meme.

To be fair, a more honest translation may have lifted out the ‘gay U’krainian N’azi’ aspect, which must be there as well, somewhere.

If it wasn’t separatists on the ground with a R’ussian Buk, the freak monster shark in a tornado theory would work. That sort of weather disturbance would account for the change in course which some have been banging on about.

Any reports of a glut of cheap shark fin soup and sushi of dubious origin showing up in M’oscow would for sure confirm. ;-)

I bet many people around the world have reacted to the Israeli Knesset member by thinking that he is a deranged loony.

Similarly, Ward is, probably, widely recognised as a prime feckwit.

On the whole, not the sort of people who hold much influence and should not be allowed authority over much at all.

What is needed is rational thought. Logically, the rags need to wise up and realised that Israel, however much you loathe or love them, have nowhere to go and as long as you lob ordnance at them, they are going to ensure that they kill more of you than you do of them.

  39. 39
    Mycroft says:

Once hostilities start pain is felt and revenge is natural.

That is what the Ward chap is saying, hopelessness and death creates a never-ending cycle and in those circumstances firing a rocket will be an occasion for cheering.

It is the same hubris that meant we wrote on bombs ‘One in the eye for Hitler’ bombs that didn’t touch him, but killed civilians.

The Blitz did that, the Ministry of War didn’t allow writing on bombs until after the Blitz.

  54. 54
    Robin J Smith says:

There has been no talking for months. Israel clearly does not want a two-state solution, preferring to take over the West Bank by stealth. Gaza is no more than a secure prison for 1.8 million people. Unemployment is very high and there is widespread poverty. Basic public services are in crisis and the country is highly dependent on charitable organisations. There is no future for the people of Gaza other than staying locked up in their barren land. Is it any wonder they fire missiles at wealthy Israel, a country that wants Gaza to remain poor and undeveoped with no hope of change?

After what Cameron, the Left and the BBC were saying about us during the European Elections it’s refreshing for all sides to be seen to be talking BS. Cameron, HNH, Common Purpose, etc led to UKIP candidates being harassed, their property being attacked, Public Meetings and Gatherings being disrupted, and finally actual theaD Threats being issued. If ANYONE is guilty of ‘Incitement To Violence’ it’s the above douchebags.

Would it help at all if the EU told the Ukrainians that the offer to join the EU has been withdrawn permanently? Then we can go back to the status quo anti when the place was a recognised and agreed buffer zone twixt east and west.

For all the trouble and mayhem they have caused Cathy Ashtray and her little gang of landgrabbers should be strung up in the main square in Brussels as a message to future leaders of this corrupt organisation of where the limits are.

  127. 127

Not really because U’kraine recently withdrew from CIS and signed into the EU’s E’astern P’artnership.

And yet, despite firm reports that it was Russia, US are now saying that: “Russia ‘created the conditions’ for shoot-down”.

“WASHINGTON (AP) – Senior U.S. intelligence officials said Tuesday that Russia was responsible for “creating the conditions” that led to the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, but they offered no evidence of direct Russian government involvement.

The intelligence officials were cautious in their assessment, noting that while the Russians have been arming separatists in eastern Ukraine, the U.S. had no direct evidence that the missile used to shoot down the passenger jet came from Russia.”

Also by the hour, the story is changing.

  131. 131

No one ever said R’ussia shot down the plane.

From the start it has been pro-R’ussian rebels using a R’ussian supplied Buk.

R’ussia got involved with the cover up afterwards, according to the intercepts.

Story has not changed at all + that release was out yesterday.

Seems they do not know. Then again, AP reports that US officials as saying they, “did not know who fired the missile or whether any Russian operatives were present at the missile launch. They were not certain that the missile crew was trained in Russia, although they described a stepped-up campaign in recent weeks by Russia to arm and train the rebels, which they say has continued even after the downing of the commercial jetliner.”

Nor, in terms of who fired the missile, do they know the name, or the rank and they are “not even 100 percent sure of a nationality,” One official said, adding at another point, “There is not going to be a Perry Mason moment here.” AP

So, “No one ever said R’ussia shot down the plane”? You clearly have not seen many MSM headlines in the days after the shoot down. And, if the press are not saying Putin did it, why are they calling for Putin and the Russia people to be punished? After re-checking MSM reports – as well as remarks for Senior U.S. intelligence officials – would you still maintain that this story “has not changed at all”?

Leaving CIS and signing up to the EU is just further evidence of the Brussels land grab in action. Would they have left to CIS if the EU offer had not been proffered? I seriously doubt it as relations with Russia were muddling along OK.

George Galloway says of his former Respect candidate the UKIP MEP turned Tory, Amjad Bashir…

“Clearly Bashir does not have any real political principles or commitment, only naked opportunism and self-interest. He represents the revolving door principle in politics. The Tories are welcome to him because he will cause them embarrassment. Fortunately Respect was able to act before he did it to us.”
