The Death of the ‘Squeezed Middle’
Miliband Ambushed By More Harman Comments

The last PMQs before the summer break is one of the most important of the year, as it leaves a lasting impression about the leaders before MPs disappear off for the summer to stew. Poor Ed.

Miliband was just ambushed by Cameron on Harriet Harman’s comments to LBC that she thinks middle income earners should pay more tax. She’s having a great week…

Unsurprisingly, the audio is now being pushed out:

‘Yes I think people on middle incomes should contribute more through their taxes’

According to Ed, pointing this out the death of the ‘squeeze middle’ line is ‘desperate’. Expect to hear this line a lot more. Nightmare last outing before the long, hot summer…

UPDATE: The in-house journal of the Labour Party are not impressed:

Nor is the Tory press:

A lot depends on what you would call middle income and which part of the country you live. In London within the confines of the M25 £40K you struggle a bit but in most of the rest of the country, certainly in some places £40K is a good income. What Harwoman should have said is, we will tighten up on all the loopholes that we and previous governments have weaved into tax legislation aided by the very people that benefit from their clients paying them to keep their taxes down.

Of course it’s voluntary. Nobody has to pay more, but they don’t have to take a little sojourn pending Her Majesty’s pleasure either.

Incidentally, have you noticed how Rolf Harris was jailed for five years, the same amount as this man who evaded £600,000. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-18352528

David Laws, who trousered £30,000 of our money in illegal expense claims, got a slap on the wrist and promoted to the cabinet a year later. Maria Miller was defenestrated by the arrogance of her apology, not for the original sin of illegally claiming £45,000 of our money.

So failing to cough up for the government’s coffers is as bad as shagging kids, but abuse of the government’s coffers by a member of the government is a mere infraction, although it would unquestionably result in a lengthy prison sentence for anybody outside the government.

There really is two legal systems in this country, isn’t there? One for the political elite, and another, altogether more draconian one, for the plebs who fail to cosset the political elite to its satisfaction.

What about feminist women who are overtaxed?

It’s wrong that women don’t get some sort of special treatment in the tax system to reflect the gender divide in wages.

White males should pay more. Everyone agrees with that.

Men and women should have separate pay and benefits systems.
Women can have a 99.99999999999999999999999999% tax system on earnings, sales, investments over 1p to pay for all their shite.
Men can have a 1% tax on sales to pay for defence.

I don’t. Maybe that’s because I’m a white male, but I think we can all agree that there is at least one person who disagrees with that.

The general idea of a tax-free allowance, followed by a percentage on earnings above that, is to ensure that people who earn less will pay less. Maths isn’t your strong point, is it?

1 and so we coin the expression THE MIDDLEBAND

the tax base is shrinking – it is the privilege of the mittelband to compensate for this

i quite agree – but these clowns still haven’t worked it out – if harman pursues her course – with over half of families already depending on the bennies – the financial hit on the middleband would be catastrophic

perhaps this is the election in which the withdrawal-of-labour party finds that out – again

Harmen pays for nothing living off the taxpayer yet feel the squeeze middle should pay more. How about the state costing less!
The squeezed middle cannot afford for themselves much of what the state takes off them and gives to “The Poor” Free housing, travel, schooling, child care, health dentists, glasses, prescriptions, holidays…for votes.
Harman get a proper job and not one where you are paid for your connections.

I daresay Yvette has to paint it on with creisote every Wednesday morning .

Mind you he gave the game away when hus expression turned to one of knowing smug self satisfaction when Cammo said the Shadiw Chancer looked happy with “his team”
