Speaker Watch: Bercow Plays Ball With Bryant

Chris Bryant has the sixth question at PMQs. Phone-hacking has been of some mild interest to him over the years and he gets on famously with Dave. However, Coulson’s trial continues over at the Old Bailey and the judge got very cross yesterday at politicians talking publicly about the partial verdict. As did Coulson’s Scottish lawyers…

Unsurprisingly, Mr Speaker has been accommodating to Labour and will allow Ed and Chris their big moment:

Let the butchery begin.

So will Ed Miliband tell us today that it is now official Labour policy that employers should not hire any person suspected of a crime, let alone of ever having been found guilty of committing one?

Wow. Some people have very short memories. Speaker Martin was the worst in history. He was so shit even the Labour party that placed him there got embarrassed by his fuckwittery culminating in allowing an opposition MP to be arrested in the Houses of Parliament on a wholly trumped-up politically motivated charge.

I would like one charge of employing a dickhead and another of taking drugs to be taken into account.

Frankly, I’d vote UKIP if I were you.

It’s a good job Labour are so blighted that having Chris Bryant pontificate on anything at all instantly provides an easy win for its opposition. He really is an odious runt.

I have no doubt that Miliband was in contempt of court in his statement on Coulson yesterday.

    He should apologise.

Rob Colvile reviews Russell Brand’s new book:

“Oddly, the person I feel sorriest for isn’t Brand himself – although he certainly comes across as a rather pitiable figure, projecting his own brokenness on to the world around him – but Johann Hari. Drummed out of Fleet Street for plagiarism, the former Independent columnist has washed up as “my mate Johann, who’s been doing research for this book”. For a genuinely talented polemicist, it would have been a humbling experience to have to treat this sub-undergraduate dross as the scintillating wisdom of a philosopher-king.”

Mycroft says:

Have you read the last bit of Animal Farm?

You know where the animals are looking through the Farmhouse window?

My TV screen was that window at lunch-time today.

Be careful, the sudden self-congratulatory tone, the slightly pudgy outline of indulgence and you become exactly what you should despise.

The jolly face of the Quisling Cameron poses for your camera has mesmerised and deceived you, you who were once not so deceived.

You were no firebrand, you were a damp squib in my opinion, sorry.

You need a damned good kick up the ahse!
