Farage Cancels Newark People’s Army Parade

Guido hears from numerous broadcasters that the ‘People’s Army’ had invited them to a big photo op in Newark market square this morning, only to be told that it wouldn’t be going ahead because Farage decided that he didn’t fancy it and went home instead. Must be the first time he has turned down an opportunity to go on telly. Not as if any other UKIP carnivals have gone wrong recently…

Labour have disappeared this morning. Presumably Chris Bryant, who managed their Newark campaign, is having a lie in after all the hard work they put into it. The LibDems are silent too. How many local LibDem branches will be looking at their sixth place last night and looking again at Clegg’s leadership…

UPDATE: Ukip claim that Farage was never going to attend the press conference and that was made clear last night. Contrary to what broadcasters say they were told.

    Socialism is theft says:

I expect it will be a long time before Dave visits Newark again either. Istanbul though, to invite 75 million Turks won’t be very long.

  2. 2
    Viewer says:

    Chris Bryant’s campaign was pants.

  4. 4
    Nicked Legg says:

Presumably Tory stooge ‘Fat Harry’ Cole is in the editor’s chair at Guido this morning, judging by all the anti-UKIP stories you are running.

Tough titz, Hazza : we are still going to ensure that you lose the election and flush Flabby Dave down the toilet that he deserves.

WE came from 4th place and less than 5% of the vote in Newark to take second place with 26% on a 15% swing from Tories to UKIP. I call that a triumph.

  5. 5
    Hacked, OFF. says:

Lost in all the Kaffufle of yesterday. The incident that triggered the hacking trial, Hacked Off’s existence, Maria Miller’s attack on press freedom and Red Ed’s Pièce de résistance in parliament. Was thrown out of court by the judge, the NotW did not delete Milli Dowler’s voicemails and the Guardian have admitted that they were wrong.

The State eavesdrops on ALL of us without applying for a single warrant says:

Vodafone, one of the world’s largest mobile phone groups, has revealed the existence of secret wires that allow government agencies to listen to all conversations on its networks

NOW THAT IS SCARY and WRONG in a so called democracy.

  9. 9
    Sarah Millington says:

Increase of 22% in UKIPs vote share.

    All other parties were down.

    Tory majority halved.

How anyone can even attempt to spin this as a disaster for Farage & UKIP is beyond me – & just part of the insulting crap we come to expect from MSM, of which this site, where UKIP is concerned at least, is increasingly resembling.

    Viperous Old Vince says:

  12. 12
Vote UKIP/Labour to ensure England stays in the EU says:

Fuck off fraud Farage,,,time for you and Helmer to get your snouts back in the EU’s trough

The citizens of Newark saw through UKIP lies, but this party of EU fanatics still represents the best hope for the marxist Milliband to seize power.

    A tragedy for England

  13. 13
    ds says:

Let’s be honest: who gives a shit? Last night, the people of Newark could have voted for pig in a top hat for all the difference it makes. Eleven months before an election in a moribund, dying-it’s-arse Parliament, the new member will do nothing of any value. And the other parties knew it, hence a pronounced absence of fucks given.

  14. 14
    Mustafa Tightarse says:

Nick Clegg admitted he tried marijuana several years ago, but didn’t like it. He said it distorted his perceptions, impaired his thinking, and made him feel a bit que’er.

I wonder when all these side-effects will wear off?

  15. 15
    Sound judgement says:

Farage was right. It would be like a doing a victory lap after a defeat. Plus you avoid lots of questions from @BBCleftyjourno like

“This is a devastating defeat, is it not?”

“Does this mean the EU result was a tremor rather than an earthquake, Mr Farage?”

“What were you up to Malta, Mr Farage?”

“Has Newark rejected Ukip’s racist policies, Mr Farage?”

  16. 16
    Dave says:

Vote Tory to stay in the EU.

I have promised that if there was to be an EU referendum that I would campaign to stay in.

  17. 17

People unhappy with both Labour and the Conservatives are no longer giving the alleged middle but in reality left wing LibDems their vote.

  21. 21
    The Cleggster says:

Yes, the LibDems did awfully well, so Vince told me.

The elephant in the room is not the Tories vote holding up, or the LibDems collapsing, but the failure of Labour to get anywhere, in this election, the locals or the European. If they were seen as a credible alternative to the Tories they would be romping home, but their % of vote is declining. Why is this not discussed at length on the BBC, if UKIP was pushing the Tories out of the way and Labour was soaring we would hear nothing else but the decline of the Tory vote. labour ran a crap campaign, and are led by a bunch of jokers. Milliband is not a leader – could you see him leading men on the beaches of Normandy?, no. The Labour party has a problem, UKIP, and the leaders don’t resonate with their core vote, so why all quiet on this topic.

I could imagine Dave charging up the beaches, Cleggy would be back at HQ running messages, Nige would be keeping well clear of the bullets but in the vicinity, and Milliband would be in the Clink as an Objector, any views?

Turkish visa and student immigration rules have recently been massively relaxed.

This has not been commented on by the MSM.
The Govt has kept it very under the carpet.

Relaxation of rules seems at odds with everything all the parties are saying about controlling immigration.

Another example of pretending to be tough on immigration. But in reality opening the doorsas wide as they can before Turkey are admitted proper.

New rules automatically qualify students to stay another 2 years post graduation in order to work (and take UK kids jobs at lower wages).

After 2 years work and 3 yrs prior study, they automatically qualify for permanent residency and thereafter a passport…..

    Why the silence on this….

Clegg would be a foreign agents spy pretending to be British but committing trechory and giving our D Day secrets to the enemy.

Milliband is more like a French N@zi sympothiser who would say anything to protect his own skin.

Farage would be a General making plans for D Day with soldiers happy to follow him as a patriotic leader against the enemy.

That’s where UKIP can at least put a brake on the leftward drift.
Hopefully pull it back once the Cons work out there’s votes in them there hills and ditch Dave and his cabal of Blairites.
UKIP as a third party to replace the LiBdems would be a good result in itself.

Cons could only win reasonably comfortably with Labour support. What the Newark result proved, is that David Blair will not be PM in 2015.

How soon will the next pathetic plea for a pact, from a Con like Redwood, Carswell, emerge. Watched a comedy drama called Trying again last night on Sky 1. That had three unflattering references to Nigel Farage in it. Pathetic.

CB. The man who said it’s not his job to watch telly.
Whilst simultaneously trying to spend a lot of time on TV.
Then again, as CB was (is?) close to the other milliband, perhaps he was given this campaign to run, safe in the knowledge that it was a lost cause.

Wouldn’t want any cherished mates of Ed to run a guaranteed loser after all.

George Galloway says of his former Respect candidate the UKIP MEP turned Tory, Amjad Bashir…

“Clearly Bashir does not have any real political principles or commitment, only naked opportunism and self-interest. He represents the revolving door principle in politics. The Tories are welcome to him because he will cause them embarrassment. Fortunately Respect was able to act before he did it to us.”
