Leaked Tory Candidates List Confirms Dave’s Women Problem
Less Than 1 in 3 Names on the List are Female

Guido has obtained the top-secret Conservative Party parliamentary candidates list – and it doesn’t look like the Tories’ “women problem” will be going away. As Guido revealed in yesterday’s Sun, less than a third of the names on the list are women, just 31%. This despite Cameron’s promise to get more women on board and him privately blaming Tory associations for not selecting female candidates, though actually it is CCHQ who have approved twice as many men as women for selection. Even then the overwhelming majority of safe seats which have already chosen candidates have been won by men. Labour’s Michael Dugher is scornful, he tells Guido: “Female Tories will still be in a minority and David Cameron has broken all his promises to do anything about it.” Stay tuned for more revelations from the leaked Tory candidates list…

You are far to encapsulated by the Westminster bubble Guido. Outside of that bubble the rest of us just want the best man or woman for the job. And most of us do Not want transsexuals or screaming woofters either.

But the Conservatives should dance to Labour’s tune and try to rig things. Labour are the riggers and the fiddler, always trying to engineer the outcomes and we only need to look at their record to see where it ends up, from Falkirk to Labour’s giant recession and banking crisis.

    SFG says:

Is almost 1/3 of the list a problem
How does it compare to previous years
How does it compare to other parties (discounting seats with all women shortlists)

Given a significant proportion of women choose to put raising a family above career and even those that return to work are known to sacrifice promotions and additional responsibilities in favour of preserving a work life balance more conducive to family life, just how attractive is a career as an MP to these

A woman has a right to choose her to prioritise a family over a career and some will. And whilst families also have the option of the Man being the primary carer, significantly fewer families will go this route

Given this a 50% ratio is an unattainable dream if you want to get the best candidates and a 1/3 to 2/3 split seems more realistic

The alternative of less capable women being chosen in preference to a more capable man, in order to fulfil some arbitrary quota is surely wrong

This correlates with the socio-economic conditions in G’reece having been regressed to levels last seen during WWII.

As a Tory activist and local Councillor I can say that if there is shortage of women candidates it is not for the want of trying by the national party. Most women Councillors (including me) have been encouraged to go through the process, a lot of hard working men with good activist CVs have been chucked off the list to make room. I declined to apply. Why? Frankly I can think of better things to do with my time than flogging up and down the country trying to find a winnable seat and having to turn out at every by elections to help. Then IF you do find a seat, spending every weekend there till the General Election. All this at my own expense (average cost = £30K). And even if you win, personally I would hate to be an MP. No privacy, no time for your family and other interests in life and constantly being attacked in the press for being sleazy etc. No thank you. You have to have a hide like a rhino, full of self confidence and be happy to have a one dimensional life to survive as an MP and I suspect like me most women are reluctant to go down this route.

I refused to stand as a candidate as my local Tory party has become a boys club, women are second class candidates and citizens, and they even selected a candidate who last election knocked on doors asking people to vote for him or the Labour candidates whilst wearing the Tory rosette because he is a man!
I stood in a senior role last election and doubled the vote as a woman with a strong and achievable manifesto, but the party is now becoming a club for 30 and 40 something PR consultants and Lawyers who are out for themselves.
I neatly met Cameron at a Tory event at No 10 but he hung out with the boys and ignored myself and a long time 70 year old chap who still gets out to leaflet and knock on doors -we got the impression that we weren’t part of the club, we weren’t good enough!
I am a lifelong Tory voter but I prefer to vote for a party that is willing and able to support me and I am very unsure of how I will vote at the upcoming elections.
