Newsnight on BBC Trust Pollard Whitewash

Paxman described Guido publishing the Pollard tape yesterday as “like stepping in dog poo on your way to Buckingham Palace” on Newsnight. He was damning of the BBC whitewash of the tape, noting that on the day they published their corporate governance report vowing greater accountability and transparency, “it doesn’t show transparency that’s for sure“.

Lord Patten read about the failings in the Pollard Review in February. Rob Wilson told him explicitly about them in August. Patten told Parliament there was nothing wrong in October. He was played the tape in November and now finally, halfway through December, he tries to instigate another whitewash. Why?

8illy Guido is just attacking the Beeb because his master wants to divert attention from the Brooks and Coulson trial, it’s taken along time for that to get to court, others say it is subject to sub judice rules, but all that is being reported is what has happened each day in the trial, latest is Fawkesy’s old pal Piers Morgan and Brooks at at a party,

Whilst Mark Thompson enjoys his $10.5m package at NYT, I think you may have forgotten to mention.

That is over three times his over-inflated pay at the BBC courtesy of us.

Not bad going for telling a string of fibs and turning the Nelsonian Blind Eye when convenient.

Again Puss, he was in charge
( Director-General of the BBC from 2004 to 2012.) the Savile thing had been going on for 44 years or so when Thomo came into power so there are a lot of people (many maybe dead) involved, plus police, department of justice and their predecessors and governments. There is also the little matter of Radio Luxembourg where Savile used to work before the Beeb. Savile has probably always been a something of a predator even in his days when he worked for Mecca Dancehalls in the 50′s. In view of all this, why did all this only break into sunlight after Savile had died, lots outside the Beeb must have known about his going’s on and NOTHING WAS DONE

To be fair to Patten, all this Savile business was going on for over 50 years and it only really blew up some months after Savile died, there are a lot of others that thought Savile was a shining light with his good works, Patten only came along when all this had blown up.

Senior politicians and Heads of Quangos do not lie. They merely interpreted the data that was available “at the time” in the most logical way. They made a statement based on all of the available evidence, but were misled by inaccurate detail supplied by outside sources. While there is a disagreement on specifics, there was broad consensus on the veracity of information discussed.
They were overworked. They were not there at the time. It was someone else’s fault. The record is clear/not clear/distorted. I don’t recall. The witness has passed away–or will do very soon.

Full credit to Paxman and Newsnight – a good analysis – not sure I agree with Steve Hewlett’s comment that “nothing in this should be taken to say there was conspiracy of silence” – because I think that is exactly what it does prove – there was a conspiracy within the BBC to coverup the appalling acts of Jimmy Saville and other paedophiles, which could only have been accomplished with the knowledge and collusion of senior managers at the BBC.

Put adverts on BBC and privatise it. Sack Patten he is a liar that treats parliament with contempt and give him no golden parachute. All he seems to have done is pay off his mates with millions of pounds because he is to weak to tell them they are sacked and not good enough for the job. Rod Liddle on the loony UN sexism special rapporteur:

“There is more sexism in Britain than in any other country in the world, according to a mad woman who has been sent here by the United Nations.

Rashida Manjoo is a part-time professor of law at Cape Town University in the totally non-sexist country of South Africa (otherwise known as Rape Capital Of The World).

Mrs Magoo has been wandering around with her notebook and is appalled by the sexist “boys’ club” culture here, apparently.

I don’t doubt we still have sexism in the UK. But is it worse than in, say, Saudi Arabia, d’you think, honey-lamb? Or about 175 other countries? Get a grip, you doolally old bat.”
