True Terrible Impact of Bedroom ‘Tax’ Revealed

Labour are forever telling us that the bedroom ‘tax’ is a vindictive and pernicious policy that will cause misery for thousands across the country. Well today the devastating consequences have come to light. Worcester News has the story of one victim, Lisa Taylor, a mother in Warndon. Her sob story of having to dip into savings makes for grim reading:

“Since the bedroom tax was brought in she can no longer afford to buy her son a PlayStation 4 for Christmas.

The horror.

your claim that the bedroom tax means people can not buy a games console shows you live in a fantasy world rather like the games on the console. It shows utter contempt for the reality of the situation when people are driven to such despair they commit suicide or get evicted. This tax is both barbaric and in reality a farce.

I used to love Martha Carney. Breathe of spring air etc. But now she apes to an extreme her BBC commentator peers to sublimate any tory criticisim of the last labour regime. A labour spokesman gets free reign. Listen to the tape today. Blatant political bias. And who always just manages to get the last word? Yes, you’ve guessed it, the labour spokesman. Oh Martha, how professional, how well timed. You really have sold your soul to the devil. In the real world, away from the protection and the isolation of the BBC, your stifling of truth and fairplay would not last a day. Shame on you. Move on. Get a life. Start facing reality. Labour has already ruined this country and let loose again will just make it infinitely worse.

  37. 96

Having fun? Yet all the wore out (“witty”) comments do is to remind the world of how nasty and totally uncaring the right wing are. No wonder you lot have little time to worry about the poor not being able paying the Bedroom Tax – more interested in finding ways to avoid paying income tax? More interest in bank profits than hearing about people going to food banks? Same old HARD-right, same old (heartless) Tories.

    • 102
      Reality Check says:

Yes really uncaring. By freeing up a house for a larger family that’s really uncaring.

By the way moving people in public sector housing to accommodation more suitable for their needs thus freeing up public sector homes for families was in the planning when Labour was in power. Who ever was in power now would have carried through with the plans. And Labour playing silly buggers and stirring the pot just for the sake of stirring shows that their current team is too immature for responsible power.

      • 111
        Anonymous says:

Then again, due to the lack of council housing stock, many people are now trapped into paying the Bedroom tax. And yet, had not much of the nations housing been sold – at knock down prices – then there would be little need to force people out of their homes. For while New Labour could have done far more for council house tenants, it is the Tories (with their ‘right to buy’ and Bedroom tax) that has led to higher levels of homelessness. How caring is that?

We aren’t nasty and uncaring we are just realistic. The country simply can’t afford to keep hundreds of thousands of families like this at home doing nothing productive.

Somewhere there’s a father who isn’t supporting this particular woman so it’s left to us to pay for her indefinitely. That’s simply unacceptable.

Tax the rich more, I hear you say, but with 30% of all income tax being paid by 1% of the population, the surprise is why these generous souls bother to stay in the country at all.

      I wouldn’t.

  40. 106
    Biffo says:

Shame about this woman & her boy whinging on like this. There are genuine people out there who have been caught out badly by this ‘extra room’ ruling – like a person who uses her spare room to store all her much needed medical equipment & families who keep a room for a son/daughter at Uni or families who would be willing to downsize but there’s no available downsized social housing in their area – not all social housing residents are on benefits BTW.
Personally, I’d love a PS4 but can’t afford one – even more I’d love to be able to afford to have the heating on all the time. but I can’t so I just put on an extra layer of clothes.
Anyway, why doesn’t the boy get off his a*** & get a part time job if he wants a PS4? At 16 my son was doing cleaning in the local supermarket every morning before school having done a paper round from the age of 13.

  41. 107

    Anonymous says:

By my reckoning this woman is receiving £210 a week in benefits and she gets Housing Benefit on top of that ! Clearly there’s no Dad about so we are supporting them 100%.

I’m self employed and this year I’ve had to pay income tax and NI payments that would have been enough to support two families like hers and that DOES include housing benefit – for both of them.

    And I don’t have a Playstation 4 either !

There really is no justice is there ?

We’ve simply GOT to find a way of stopping this ridiculous drain on resources.

  43. 115
    CS says:

OK, Mandela died tonight. Yes it’s news and I did admire the guy but the BBC has gone right over the top as expected.

Cold War program on BBC 2 interrupted with “Breaking News on BBC 1″ banners. I thought the Queen must have died.

Then we get to the 10pm news and we find that Question Time and This Week have been cancelled so they can stream the BBC News Channel on BBC 1 as well it’s normal channel and there’s wall to wall coverage on Newsnight at the same time.

That’s 3 BBC channels simultaneously covering the event !

No mention of the Autumn Statement, of course.

Now I see that Question Time is being switched to BBC2 after Newsnight.

How can they possibly justify all this coverage ?

Probably to cover up Ed Balls total embarrassment in the Commons earlier !

    Shame !

Rod Liddle on the loony UN sexism special rapporteur:

“There is more sexism in Britain than in any other country in the world, according to a mad woman who has been sent here by the United Nations.

Rashida Manjoo is a part-time professor of law at Cape Town University in the totally non-sexist country of South Africa (otherwise known as Rape Capital Of The World).

Mrs Magoo has been wandering around with her notebook and is appalled by the sexist “boys’ club” culture here, apparently.

I don’t doubt we still have sexism in the UK. But is it worse than in, say, Saudi Arabia, d’you think, honey-lamb? Or about 175 other countries? Get a grip, you doolally old bat.”
