Smeargate Amnesia mdi-fullscreen

You wait three years for Labour baddies to break cover and suddenly three come along at once. Charlie Whelan popped up on the Daily Politics  to deny he had any idea that Damian McBride was briefing or smearing people. Which is a bit odd given that he was copied in on the Smeargate emails that were eventually to be McBride’s downfall. Watch him try laugh that allegation off by awkwardly repeating “I had no idea what Damian was up to”:

Sickeningly Alastair Campbell has used McBride’s book to attempt to rewrite his only sorry history in government. He makes it sound like he was some sort of saint who only turned his dark arts on the Tories. Seasoned Labour watchers point to Peter Mandelson, Mo Mowlam and David Clark as former Labour ministers who would disagree. It’s one of those fights that you want them all to lose. Next move to McBride on Newsnight tonight…
