Ghastly Ghose Goes For Parliament

Regular readers will remember Katie “Ghastly” Ghose, who spent her whole time as chairman of the Yes to AV campaign trashing the ‘old political parties’. You would have thought that the woman who turned a 27-point lead for AV into a 36-point victory for the No campaign might have moved on to pastures new, but no, she’s back. And she’s in the running to be a Labour MP…

Her controversial company Electoral Reform Services Ltd won’t be counting the votes this time, but Guido takes some pleasure in knowing that as it’s a shortlist of two, her fate will be decided by First Past the Post. No doubt Ghastly Ghose will gain plenty of support from those Labour MPs who refused to deliver her Yes2AV leaflets that branded them lazy. Best of luck Katie…

What Germany feared and fought off in the 1930s was not freedom but Bolshevism-of-the-left (oddly a right wing libertarian movement in practice). They saw (correctly I would suggest) anarchism for what it was. That is what Lenin described as an infantile disorder. It is anarchism, a child’s narcissistic view of the world. One has to distinguish the German (and Russian) Labour movements at the time (it was the Russian Labour party which led the revolution, essentially Fabians hence the Webbs’ support of Russia in the 30s and 40s) from libertarian anarchism – the free-market. Even Russia was fighting off (purging) left wing communism as anarchists in the 1930s. This is why Germany and Russia were essentially allies from 1939-41 (What happened from summer 1941-1947 was that state socialism (the National socialists were left-wing statists) swept westwards into Europe, it’s spread was only halted by the volte face of the J’wish Morgenthau Plan into the Marshall Plan. Even Britain went left in 1945. Orwell was attacking Fabians in his 1984 (it’s the centenary of the birth of the Fabian society which was in 1884).

    typical leftie career path

Ghose was born and raised in Sussex, first in Lancing, West Sussex and then Brighton and Hove. She attended Boundstone Community College in Lancing and Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College (BHASVIC) in Hove. Ghose joined the Labour Party in Hove and has been a member ever since.

She read Law at Somerville College, Oxford, where she was editor of the student newspaper, Cherwell.

From 1992 to 1994 Ghose worked as a parliamentary researcher to Greville Janner, the Labour MP for Leicester West

From October 2005 Katie Ghose served as Director of the British Institute of Human Rights. She was a Commissioner on the Independent Asylum Commission from 2006-2008 and has been chair of two charities, Asylum Aid and Bail for Immigration Detainees.

She has one daughter with her partner Andrew Harrop, the General Secretary of the Fabian Society.

Sounds just the right type for labour, please can labour pick someone who at least has working class credentials and not just another Oxbridge/Political Researcher/Charity Chair left wing thinktank type.

labour previously had the seat from 1997 when at the last election Des turner stood down and the labour candidate lost the seat, he was a traditional labour mp but I bet pressure was put on him to stand down (He was educated at Luton Grammar School (now known as Luton Sixth Form College) on Bradgers Hill Road in Luton. At Imperial College London, he gained a BSc and MSc. At University College, London, he gained a PhD, researching Biochemistry. At Brighton Polytechnic, he got a PGCE, and subsequently became a teacher. He also became a partner in an independent brewery.
Turner was a Councillor on East Sussex County Council 1985-97, and on Brighton Borough Council 1994-97 and Brighton and Hove Council 1996-97.)

“27-point lead for AV into a 36-point victory for the No campaign”

To be fair, the polls, as usual, were bollocks. The media outlets (mainly Independent) wanted that narrative, so the polls they paid for showed a lead right up until about a month before.

The people who were going to bother to vote, were never going to support it.
